Enterprising Women Graduate

 

The first group of Enterprising Women graduate and launch or ramp up their businesses. This first group of entrepreneurs have the following business aspirations:

  • organic local food cafe

  • hand made metal works jewelery

  • foot care service

  • furniture refinishing

  • scrap booking store

  • women's health and wellness

Support and Training

The Loan Fund offers a variety of training to help you develop skills for creating income, building assets and attaining more independence. Training often helps us get to where we want to be. In fact, developing skills is developing an asset. Please have a look below at some of the training we offer to enable you to build the future you want.

 

Enterprising Women - Building a Business

Do you have a business idea? Ready for the challenge of a 20 week program to research and launch your business idea? Enterprising Women is a new program dedicated to women wanting to start businesses in Saint John. We will focus on women who are living on low incomes and are ready to take control of their future through self-employment. Active recruitment for the program will begin mid-October 2009 and classes start in January 2010. there will be two classes a week and the expectation is that you put in 20 hours a month into your training.

Enterprising Women is supported through a five year funding arrangement from the Canadian Women's Foundation with additional funding from Women's Issues Branch of the Province of NB.

Money Matter$ Training Program 

Money doesn't grow on trees, so let's not treat it that way!

Money Matter$ is a training course to help you understand the financial world around you. The course includes five 2 1/2 hour classes that cover;

Assets - where you will learn about cash, property, skills and other types of assets, what you have today and what assets you want to acquire and have for the future.

Budgeting - where you will track expenses, learn about your needs and wants, set goals, and create a budget.

Credit - where you will learn about credit ratings, how to read your own credit report, credit cards, loans, finance companies, and how to handle and repair debt.

Banking - where you will learn about interest rates, types of accounts, kinds of financial institutions, service fees, and what banking you need.

Consumerism - where you will learn why you spend money on certain things, when you do it, how ads work, and how our spending habits affect our future and our environment.

Power Up! Training Program

Power Up! is a 10 week neighbourhood leadership training program designed exclusively for women - yes YOU! You'll learn about and learn how to present on your neighbourhood and you will explore where your next step might be in your own life. You'll learn research basics, how to present in front of people, learn to journal, about social enterprise, and much more. Many graduates have gone on to complete their GED and go even further with schooling. Some have gotten jobs as Neighbourhood Assistants or with the local newspaper "Around the Block". Its really up to you how far you take it.

 

The program is offered by the Urban Core Support Network in partnership with the Loan Fund which provides overall facilitation. YES! Youth Entrepreneurship = Success

 

Are you between the ages of 13-17? Are you interested in learning about and starting you own summer business? MAKING some CASH! Well you'll do that as well as learn about how to do basic research and how to make a difference in your community. What a great way to build something for your future.

 

YES! is a summer training and business launch program for youth. The program will start in June. Funding for the first pilot of YES! was provided by the Population Growth Secretariat to provide opportunities for youth to think about building their future in New Brunswick.

A$$ets Training Program

 

Assets have value. They can be skills, relationships, property and cash.

 

The A$$ets Program is a 36 week program that will help you build some of the skills and the saving$ you need to get to a new place in your life.

 

The  A$$ets Program provides participants with:

  • Matched savings—you save, we match!

  • Employment Options—where do you want to be?

  • Resumes and Interviewing Skills

  • Business Start Up Skills

  • Leadership/Self Esteem

  • Job Shadowing

  • And More!
